The M3 “Grease Gun” is a .45 caliber submachine gun developed by the United States from 1943 to 1945. It was developed as a replacement for the Thompson Submachine Gun, and was most notably issued to tank crews due to its portability. Due to delays caused by production issues, and approved specification changes, the M3 saw limited combat use in World War II.  It’s successor, the M3A1, did not see active use in the war, and was only briefly used in the Korean War.
